Important Retreat Info:
How to get to Lasqueti
Getting to Lasqueti is a bit tricky. So please read carefully. And let me know if you have questions.
If you don't read anything else, this is the most important sentence:
Plan to be at French Creek Ferry terminal at 2 pm the latest, on August 17!
-------------------
More details here:
The ferry terminal that goes to Lasqueti is called French Creek.
It is about 45 minutes of driving north of Nanaimo , between Parksville and Qualicum Beach.
There are only 2 ferry times from French Creek to Lasqueti Island on Sundays:
- 2:30 pm
- 5:30 pm
These are not reservable.
So I highly recommend aiming for the 2:30 pm boat.
I would NOT risk planning for the last boat. If you miss that one, you're stuck.
So again:
Please plan to be at French Creek at 2 pm the latest on Aug 17!
Another important note:
The Lasqueti ferry is a foot passenger ferry ONLY.
So you can't take your car with you to Lasqueti. If you are driving, you will need to park your car at French Creel for $10-15 per day.
Once we get to Lasqueti, we will be picked up by Mark and his truck. So all good there!
Now how do we get to French Creek?
For everyone coming from Vancouver, these are the main options:
Drive the whole way, and park your car at French Creek. ($10-15 / day)
If you are doing this, let us know, so that we can carpool and split the costs.Take the ferry on foot from Horseshoe bay to Nanaimo, or the Hullo ferry from Waterfront to Nanaimo. Then share a cab together, from Nanaimo to French Creek.
In order to get to Nanaimo, we have to take either:
- Horseshoe Bay ferry at 11:05 AM
- Hullo Ferry at 11 AM (from Waterfront Station)There is also a ‘shuttle’ that goes from Nanaimo ferry terminal to Qualicum beach. Here's the link for it : https://www.islandlinkbus.com/
The problem with this is that they don't always stop at French Creek for some reason. This happened to me one time, where they dropped me off at Qualicum Beach instead, and it was a bit stressful. There is also a public bus from Nanaimo , but it is way too slow in my experience, and I don't recommend it
I would recommend option 2 : taking the ferry on foot and then taking a cab to French Creek.
We will coordinate a plan to take the morning Ferry together on the morning of Aug 17th, so we can split costs together!
And of course, you are welcome to be on your own journey, and meet us at French Creek at 2 pm!

What to Bring to Lasqueti:
Essentials:
Sleeping bag & Pillow (I recommend bringing this even if you are sleeping in the shared spaces)
Tent, if you are camping
Headlamp (Phone light is ok - but trust me, headlamp works a lot better!)
Towel
Non-Glass Water bottle
Your personal care items & toiletries
Comfortable shoes for forest walking
Warm clothing for the evening. It does get a bit cool at night
Movement clothing for one week.
Bring a few t-shirts! Sleeves are recommended for floor exercises and movements. Tanktop isn't ideal.
Long pants are preferred, also for sliding on the floor.
Socks - also for sliding on the floor
Note: Don't count on doing laundry there. So please make sure you pack enough underwear and t-shirts!
Nice to have:
Yoga Mat (There are some in the studio already. But if you have space to bring your own, it's a good idea)
Swimsuit for ocean swims
Book(s) to read
Journal
Blindfolds / eyemasks: Other than their use for sleeping, we will also do a couple of exercises with closed eyes. Blindfolds make this even better!
What NOT to bring:
Please don't bring any of the following:
Food (You will be well fed throughout the week. Small snacks are ok)
Cooking Equipment
Pets
Children
Alcohol
